NPSA Titans October 2017 Newsletter

October 2017 Newsletter

From the Desk of the DOC

Dear Titans,

We are approaching the climax to Fall Season and, as always, it is all going by so fast! Every weekend our Head Coaches relay stories of great performances and impressive results but, above all, inspiring teamwork and sportsmanship from so many of our teams across all age groups is what has been catching my attention. That is what I want our club to be known for, a good quality youth soccer program that develops its players to respect the game and each other. So, great job to all our teams and their dedicated coaches and volunteers.

As many of you will already know, great strides are being taken in terms of new turf fields coming online throughout the Eastside over the past few months and more planned moving forward into 2018. Access to field space is crucial to any youth sports organization and we are no different. More fields across our multiple locations will enable us to provide more consistency in scheduling, which I know is key to our members, and better quality fields which is key to our players’ development.

For our Mercer Island contingent, the re-development of Island Crest Park North Field will be completed by the end of this month and we have secured consistent time on this new turf field over the Winter which is fantastic and a big improvement on what we have been given in the past on the Island at this time of year.

In Bellevue, fields that were previously dirt at Phantom Lake ES, Somerset ES and Medina ES are now beautiful turf fields that our teams have already been able to use and enjoy. More field re-developments are planned in Bellevue in 2018.

So, lots to look forward to in the coming months and next year! I hope you enjoy this edition of our monthly Newsletter and good luck to all our teams for the remainder of Fall Season!

Together Each Achieves More

DON'T MISS OUT! Early-Bird Registration for Seasonal Teams

Just as the game is constantly evolving, we as a club must continue to do the same to ensure that we are providing the best program possible to our members. With this in mind, we have adjusted the way in which we form our seasonal teams for Spring to make things easier for our families and less stressful for the players.

Previously, we have held a tryout in December and, basically, started again with all our younger teams. This gave our members the flexibility to commit to one season at a time and not the whole year. As much as we want to keep our teams together and maintain continuity throughout our program, we also understand that many of our players are dual-sport athletes and, therefore, we don’t want to limit the opportunities they have.

So, we have continued with the seasonal approach but, this time around, we are offering our current 2009-2006 players the opportunity to secure their spots early for Spring Season and avoid the tryout scenario. In addition, we are also giving $100 loyalty discount to our members that register before Nov 5th.

For new players that want to tryout for our 2009-2006 age group teams, they can participate in our Spring Season Training Camp where they will be assessed and potentially offered a spot.

We believe this new approach will be a big benefit to our families and give those players that do want to play year-round soccer a more consistent environment by having the ability to remain on the same team for the full soccer year regardless of what new players come along in the Spring Season Training Camp.

Thanksgiving SKLZ Clinic

Avoid Black Friday and Get Outside at our Thanksgiving SKLZ Clinic

NPSA is hosting a Thanksgiving SKLZ Clinic as a perfect way to ease off those extra turkey and pumpkin pie calories! On Friday, November 24th, our coaches will be running three fast-paced stations that will include SAQ competitions, finishing, and small sided games with game-related technique. On top of holding a fantastic clinic for players aged 6-14, we will also be hosting a PARENTS VS PLAYERS Scrimmage! NPSA coaches will set up large fields for parents to truly test if they've "still got it." No coaching, just family fun on the soccer field. Please note that this clinic is open to all soccer players, not just NPSA families. For more information, as well as registration, please CLICK HERE.

All questions regarding this clinic can be sent to npsaprograms@npsatitans.com.

Spring Season Training Camp (SSTC)

Transitioning between soccer seasons is never easy. Players lose their fitness and touch fast. Some players are looking for a fresh challenge or a step up in competition-level and environment. Whatever your player is looking for, the NPSA Spring Season Training Camp has it covered!

Our professional coaching staff will focus on skill development while ensuring that the players are ready for Spring Season. For new players to our program, the SSTC is not only a great way of checking out our club and the environment we provide but it is also a way for our coaching staff to assess you for a potential spot on one of our Premier teams.

Our Spring Season Training Camp is open to all players, not just NPSA members, and is being offered in 3 locations: Bellevue, Mercer Island and Newport Hills.

Team Spotlight - G07

The G07 girls have had a very successful season so far. They sit undefeated at the top of the league with 2 games left to go. If they manage to win their remaining games it will mean a place in the Superleague1 next season which would be a fantastic achievement for this group.

The ladies worked hard during the off season to insure that when the first game came around they were ready to go. The fantastic attitudes and willingness to learn from all the players at every practice has put this team in a position to achieve great things not only this season but moving forward into Spring!

The introduction of the Titan XX girl specific team training program run by highly qualified coach Erik Oman has no doubt played a huge role in the development and success of this team.

Coach Jack and Coach Jaynie have really emphasized the principles of play to the girls this year and they have responded well demonstrating a solid understanding of these key components.  Not only do these girls know how to score goals having notched up 42 in 8 games they also know how to defend, conceding just 2 all season. It’s a great balance and a winning formula.

With a team loaded with potential, it’s going to be exciting to see what this group can achieve moving forward! Go Titan XX's!

B03 Goalkeeper - Luke Johnson

NPSA GK Union Update

This has been such an exciting Fall season for our NPSA Goalkeeper Union! We've seen some outstanding performances from goalkeepers of all ages and collectively, our keepers have taken some big strides forward in their development.  Many of our goalkeepers have been attending our Goalkeeper Union training program and it truly shows.  Lately, our keepers have been working on close-range saves and dealing with shot rebounds more efficiently in our training.  No one has displayed their development better than standout B03 keeper Luke who had 8 big 1v1 saves against a first-place Aguilas team.  His efforts contributed significantly to their draw to keep them in contention for the league title! We have seen everyone's hard work pay off and it is truly amazing to watch!

In our next program, we will be adding a physical development element provided by our assistant goalkeeping staff member Nico Terentjev who specializes in this line of work.  Goalkeepers will also continue to develop their technique as Director Keegan Rogers will be providing real-time video playback for keepers. Every player develops differently, and our goalkeeping staff have found that many of our keepers respond better with visual feedback.  Our training program has experimented with film study in the past and has proven to be quite beneficial for our young goalkeepers. This form of instruction will play a bigger role in our training sessions.
