April 2017 Newsletter
Spring Season is approaching its climax with division titles being decided, WA State Cup fast approaching and our Tryouts for next season just around the corner. The world of youth soccer never stops spinning!
As a club, we are in a really good moment with exciting new partnerships being agreed, our teams performing to a high standard across multiple age groups, and our players attracting interest from regional and professional academies.
With so much happening within our program and a new soccer season soon upon us, I felt it was the right time to put together a ‘State of the Club Address’ to ensure that our members are fully informed on all the exciting new additions to our program and the direction our club is heading in.
Our Tryout Schedule has now been released and Registration is open. We anticipate our largest tryout numbers ever this time around and I am very excited to see all the players out on the field starting April 18th.
Our recent announcement regarding the SKLZ partnership is another fantastic step for our program and it is going to benefit our players and teams exponentially. This is the first time in their history that SKLZ has partnered with a youth soccer organization and it demonstrates the progress of our program that a worldwide company is willing to put their name to our club. You will soon see all NPSA coaches and players making full use of the innovative, soccer-specific equipment that SKLZ produce. I can’t wait!
The first opportunity for our players to experience training the SKLZ way will be our Spring Break Training Clinic. If you are staying in town and want to keep your player active, I highly recommend taking advantage of this opportunity! More details later in this newsletter.
I hope you enjoy this month’s newsletter and please take the time to read the ‘State of the Club Address’.
Good luck to all our teams in their remaining League games and the WA State Cup competition!
Together Each Achieves More
It's Time for Tryouts
Yes, it's that time of the year again. You may feel you're still in the middle of the League and State Cup season, but it's time to signup as tryouts start in April.
This year we have 3 locations: Bellevue, Mercer Island and Newport Hills. For our older age groups that move to a year round program, this will be the only tryout opportunity available for the next 12 months.
NPSA Partners with SKLZ
NPSA, the fastest growing youth Premier Soccer club in Western Washington, recently announced a new partnership with SKLZ. SKLZ is the leader in skill and performance-based training equipment and this new partnership cements SKLZ as the official supplier of innovative soccer training equipment to NPSA. The soccer specific training equipment supplied to NPSA by SKLZ was developed with feedback from coaches, and players including SKLZ Soccer Team Captains, Alex Morgan and Megan Rapinoe. It is designed to help players and coaches prepare for game day.
According to Adam Nowland, Founder and DOC at NPSA, this new partnership will enhance all NPSA programs that serve the many diverse populations in the area. “This is a very exciting day in the history of our club! For a company with the size, reach and reputation of SKLZ to partner with NPSA is a clear sign that our program is heading in the right direction. We are constantly looking for ways to better serve our members and set a new standard in youth soccer training in the Pacific Northwest and beyond. Working alongside SKLZ and utilizing their equipment throughout our program will only enhance the product we currently provide and benefit our players across all our teams and age groups.”
The new SKLZ equipment will be showcased at the start of the Summer soccer season and will be used throughout NPSA’s training programs, Summer Camps and Enhancement clinics.
NPSA Expands to Newport Hills
NPSA is excited about expanding to Newport Hills, an underserved area for youth soccer on the Eastside. Our program will focus on the development age groups (birth years 2010 - 2005). We'll be running a series of programs this Summer with teams that will compete in the PSPL, the Tiny Titans (U6) and Junior Titans (U7-U8) programs, as well as the Center of Excellence technical training program.
We've created a free introductory clinic to introduce the community to the NPSA way of developing youth soccer players. It's open to girls and boys born in 1010 - 2005. Limited spots are available to register today to avoid disappointment.
Powered by SKLZ Spring Break Clinic
By now you may all know about our recent partnership announcement with SKLZ, the leader in Soccer Performance Training equipment. Our Spring Break clinic will be the first specialized clinic where we'll start to use the equipment so don't miss out on the opportunity to try it out.
While attention to the technical and tactical aspects of the game is important, the advanced player needs bigger challenges. Our clinic focuses on developing speed, quickness and agility (SAQ). It's about developing explosive speed on multiple levels.
Location: Chinook Middle School
Dates: April 10, 11, 12, & 13
NPSA TEAM SPOTLIGHT
B04 & B03 Navy Bellevue competing in 2017 NW Champions League
Our B04 Navy Bellevue team has been invited to participate in the 2017 NW Champions League alongside the best teams at this age group in the State of Washington and beyond.
Including the top teams from the RCL, Oregon and Idaho, the NW Champions League is a great arena for our boys to showcase their ability and test themselves against the best.
Coach Keenan Butler and the boys are currently finishing up their Superleague 1 Spring League season and preparing for a run at the WA State Cup competition.
The NW Champions League will be held in August at 60 Acres in Redmond and our B04's will be joined by our B03 Navy Bellevue team in representing NPSA in what will be our club's first appearance in this competition.
This is another sign that NPSA as a Premier youth soccer program is fast becoming a force and able to offer the highest level of competition to our players!
Tryouts for both of these Titan teams, as well as for all our other age groups, begin on April 18th and run until May 7th.
If you have the desire to compete at the top level of youth soccer, register for our tryouts and earn your spot on a Titan team for the 2017/18 season!
G04 Navy MI Runaway Success
This month we have two teams we'd like to spotlight, one of them being the G04 Navy Mercer Island team. The team secured the Spring division title with one game in hand. Their record this season is 8 wins from 8 games.
It's been a great team effort with players, coaches and parents all contributing to a fantastic season! We look forward to seeing this group of Titan XX ladies continue to progress and step up to the next level in Fall Season!
B02 Navy Control Their Own Destiny
The NPSA B02 Navy team have set themselves up to end their season with an opportunity to bring home some hardware. After being knocked out of State Cup earlier this season, the boys rallied to set themselves up with an opportunity to control their own destiny for the remainder of the season. They have had some big wins so far this season, including a 7-0 thrashing of rival club Bellevue FC. Coach Keegan of the B02 Navy team has been particularly pleased with the way the boys have been playing intelligent soccer. Coach Keegan shared some words on his team’s performance thus far:
“These boys have really come together to be a complete team. They have put in a ton of work at training, they are playing the game the right way, and their talents have really manifested in their performances. As a coach, it makes my job a lot easier when players show up to training ready to learn and apply what is being taught. These players have a high soccer IQ and it has been a pleasure to watch them develop as the year progresses. It’s almost unheard of for B02 players to score from midfield, but we have had two different players doing so this season. I look forward to seeing how this team finishes out the year. We have a few games left and I am very confident in these young men.”

NPSA Goalkeeper Union Address
We are continuously grateful for the community that we have created and the opportunities it provides for our goalkeepers. Since early February, we have had a training program put into place for our keepers to develop and learn from each other. However, for the second set of our training program, our younger goalkeepers have had the unique pleasure of working with two of our more experienced goalkeepers Tommy Fenedick and Mari Rosenwald. Tommy and Mari have kindly been volunteering their time to work with our younger goalkeepers during their sessions. They have helped out with the training equipment, demoing exercises to show our young keepers good technique, and have constantly encouraged our young goalkeepers throughout their sessions. This is why the goalkeeper union was created in the first place. We encourage a strong goalkeeping community and Mari and Tommy have both embodied this to the fullest. We look forward to watching our goalkeeping union continue to grow!
