March 2017 Newsletter
I have to start this month’s newsletter off with an amazing story that truly makes me very proud and demonstrates that our program is on the right track. Dilon Spahia, captain of our B03 Navy Bellevue team, has recently been invited to join the Seattle Sounders Discovery program. Dilon and his family have been with our club since its inception back in 2013 and their loyalty and belief in our program has paid off with Dilon being identified by the Sounders Academy coaching staff as a player for the future. Congratulations to Dilon and we will continue to follow his progress and keep you all informed.
Spring Season is now in full swing with our teams performing extremely well across all age groups and competitions. Aside from the teams that I coach personally, I have been able to observe several of our other teams in action and have been very impressed with the continuity shown in terms of the style of play and organization of the players. The hard work of our coaching staff and players is clearly starting to pay dividends in the form of results.
Our B01 Navy Bellevue team are a perfect example of this as they recently ended their 2016/17 season as Superleague 2 champions and finalists in the State Cup Gold Bracket. The players deserve huge credit for their achievements over the last 12 months and the future is extremely bright for this group of young men.
Also deserving of a mention, are the female Titan teams as they have all started the Spring Season off particularly strongly. This has coincided with the appointment of Erik Oman as the Director of our Female Program and the implementation of our Titan XX initiative that is specifically for our female teams. Having the opportunity to train under Erik’s curriculum and guidance is fantastic for our female players and clearly having an effect on their development and performances. So far this Spring Season, our female teams have accumulated 13 wins, 2 ties and only 2 losses. Keep up the good work Titan Ladies!
On the coaching side, we have continued our education pathway for our staff with the completion of the NSCAA 7v7 and 9v9 Diplomas which NPSA hosted in February. Next up is the NSCAA 11v11 Diploma and then the National Diploma. Here at NPSA, we realize the importance of evolving as the game evolves and the NSCAA Coaching Courses ensure that our staff are up to speed with the constantly changing environment that youth soccer is and needs to be. Developing coaches is just as important as developing players and we will continue to do so to provide our members with the best possible product on the market today!
Finally, believe it or not, we are nearing the 2017/18 Tryout season which comes around the end of April/start of May. With this in mind, NPSA is providing the ‘Prepare for Tryouts’ training program to get your player ready to perform at their best. Erik Oman has created the curriculum and will be directing this program so it is not to be missed in my opinion. This will be open to all players inside and outside of our club so spots will fill up fast. Details for this program can be found later in this newsletter.
We have a lot of exciting news in the pipeline that we will be releasing over the coming weeks so stay tuned to hear about how our club is going to get even better!
Together Each Achieves More
Dilon Spahia Joins Seattle Sounders Discovery Program
“From Day 1, there was something special about this kid” said our DOC & Founder, Adam Nowland, “Dilon had this insatiable appetite for the game and a dedication to train and improve that you rarely see in one so young”.
It is Dilon’s dedication and desire for the game of soccer that has caught the attention of the Seattle Sounders and propelled him into their Discovery program.
Dilon started with NPSA at the age of 10 and has been with our program ever since. Now, at 13 years old, Dilon is the captain of the B03 Navy Bellevue Titans that, under the guidance of Coach Adam, became the first NPSA team to win the PSPL Superleague 1 title back in Fall and are looking to add the State Cup title to their list of honors this Spring.
Dilon is also the captain of the PSPL Surf Academy team that our very own DOC, Adam Nowland, also coaches.
“It is a fantastic achievement for Dilon to be invited to join the Sounders Discovery program and I have no doubt that he will forge a career in the game. However, Dilon will be the first to acknowledge that this is the first step of many to achieve his ultimate goal of becoming a professional player so now is not the time to relax, now is the time to work even harder to continue to improve and be the very best he can be every training session and every game.”
Adam went onto say, ”We are extremely proud of Dilon here at NPSA and will continue to support him all the way through his soccer career. It is very exciting that a player who has been with our program from Day 1 and received his soccer education through NPSA, has now been picked up by the local professional club in the Seattle Sounders. It validates our message that we develop good soccer players and solid young people that can achieve their goals through our program.”
Dilon currently trains with the Sounders twice a week and will continue to train and play with the NPSA B03 Navy Bellevue team this Spring season.

How do you help your player prepare for tryouts?
Tryouts can be a very stressful time for youth soccer players but there are a few ways that you can alleviate that stress. Adam's latest column on GoalWa.net provides tips for parents and players on how to get ready for tryouts.
B01 Navy Bellevue Season Review
Big congratulations to the B01 Navy Bellevue team on their outstanding achievements over the last 12 months. Not only did this group win the Superleague 2 Division in Fall, they also had a great run in State Cup making it all the way to the final of the Gold Bracket.
In the final, the boys came up against the current Superleague 1 Champions in the form of Wenatchee Utd Aguilitas and, in a highly competitive game, unfortunately lost out. It was a great experience for the players and one that will only make them stronger moving forward.
These players, along with our B00 group, now go off to play for their respective High School teams for the remainder of Spring and we look forward to their return in June!
Former US Women's National Team Player, Steph Cox, to make appearance at Titan XX gathering
We are extremely excited to announce that former US Women’s National Team player and Olympic Gold Medalist, Steph Cox, will be coming out to talk to all our female Titan players on April 5th.
This event is part of our Titan XX program that has been created to provide all our female players with a training and developmental environment that inspires and supports them in their soccer journey.
Steph Cox is the ideal person to kick-off our role model series as her record on the field speaks for itself but, more importantly, it is what she has done off the field that demonstrates the qualities she possesses as a person which is a great example to our female Titans.
More details about this event will follow shortly, so watch out for it. Your daughter won't want to miss this event.
Goalkeeper Union Player Showcase: Jordan Goodwin
One remarkable aspect that members of our NPSA Goalkeeper Union present in their time on the field is the amount of passion they have for the game, specifically their position as keeper. Lately, no other goalkeeper has shown more passion and dedication than our B04 White Team goalkeeper, Jordan Goodwin. Jordan has attended every session of our NPSA Goalkeeper Training Program and it is truly showing in his team trainings and game performances. His eagerness to learn is unparalleled and he continues to surprise the coaching staff with his continued development.
If you would like to join Jordan and the rest of our goalkeepers, please visit the NPSA Titans web page, click on the "GK Union" tab under "Programs," and learn what being a Titans Goalkeeper is all about! Go Titans!!!
College Prep Intro Night Review
Earlier in February NPSA hosted the kick-off event for the NPSA College Pathway Program at Chestnut Hill Academy in Bellevue. With over 50 people in attendance our College Pathway Director, Lee Hitchen, gave a 2 hour presentation on the general guidelines of college soccer recruiting and laid out the road map for what we have planned as each of our players progresses through high school.
There was so much information on offer and from the feedback we have received there will be another college introduction night in the early summer. We received some wonderful reactions from the event and our families really got some in-depth material to take and follow for their own players. If you missed this introduction night be sure not to miss the next one! If you aren’t sure if it is for you, just ask a parent or player that was in attendance what their thoughts were. There is information for everyone no matter what stage they are at in their potential college search. The College Pathway is just one more program where we are trying to help all our players succeed and realize their goals.
Thanks to all who attended!
