Adam Nowland - Director of Coaching

Adam Nowland is the Founder and Director of Coaching at NPSA. He brings a wealth of playing experience at the highest level and a passion for the game that is unrivalled in this area.

Playing Experience

Adam began his professional soccer journey at the age of 10 when he joined hometown club, Preston North End. At age 12 he was invited to train with the Liverpool FC Center of Excellence where he was coached by the legendary Steve Heighway. This is where Adam tasted the first of many setbacks in his career when he was released after one season. This disappointment only served to make him more determined to succeed and Adam signed for Blackpool FC the following year and made his way through their youth system to eventually become the youngest ever scorer in the club’s 126 year history, a record he still holds to this day.

Adam moved onto Wimbledon aged 19 before signing for Premier League Club, West Ham Utd as part of a $1.1million deal.

Former European Champions, Nottingham Forest, were the next team to acquire Adam’s services when they paid $400,000 for him in 2004.

Adam later got the opportunity to play for his hometown team when Preston North End signed him and he enjoyed a great start there with 3 goals in his first 9 games. Unfortunately, this run came to an end when Adam suffered the biggest setback of his career with a double fracture of his right leg. He battled back from this career threatening injury however and after 14 months on the sidelines, he made a return to first team action.

Adam also spent the 2008/09 season at Notts County (which is the oldest professional soccer team in the world) before returning to Blackpool FC to round off his 12 year career.

In all, Adam made over 200 appearances scoring 20 goals. He played with and against some of the best players in the world and had the honor of working under and learning from some of the best coaches in the English game.

Coaching Credentials

Recognizing early that his playing days wouldn’t last forever, Adam began his coaching education during his 14 month layoff with injury. He worked with the academy and reserve teams at Preston North End and completed several English Football Association courses. Adam worked his way up to attain his UEFA B License by the time he retired from playing in 2010 and he is now working towards his UEFA A License.

Since arriving in the Pacific Northwest, Adam has been a Youth Director at the Washington Rush and was also appointed Head Coach of the Washington Crossfire PDL Team in 2012 leading them to the playoffs in his first season in charge.

In addition to being the NPSA Director of Coaching, Adam is also a Senior Coaching Staff Member and Head Coach of the B03 and B02 age groups for the PSPL Surf Academy.
